Paul C. Baker, CHT, is known for his work within the UHMS Associates, where he served two terms as the President, and as the President of the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) which he helped to organize and implement.

As a member of the United States Air Force, where he served as a corpsman, he served in many different assignments. He was very heavily involved in aircrew training and evaluation, managing such programs for over 15 years. While serving in Vietnam, as an aeromedical evacuation technician evacuating casualties to hospital facilities, he earned, among other awards, five Air Medals and a Bronze Star for his heroism and dedication. He was the senior enlisted person in charge of a newly formed USAF research and development program where he was involved in testing and developing medical equipment and procedures for use in aeromedical evacuation aircraft and hyperbaric medicine chambers. He is well published in that area. After his retirement from the USAF he joined the Jefferson C. Davis Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, San Antonio, Texas, as a corpsman, working his way up to be the Director of Clinical Operations of two multiplace and one monoplace hyperbaric medicine facilities. His contributions to and involvement in the UHMS Associates program and hyperbaric medicine is well recognized. The UHMS Associates have named an annual award after him which is presented to the Associate “recognized for their outstanding contributions to the advancement and safety in hyperbarics worldwide”. As the President of the NBDHMT he evaluates the curriculum of all Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory Courses and all courses/seminars/educational activities seeking approval by the NBDHMT. He lectures frequently on the importance of proper training, good safety practices and hyperbaric technology certification. Under his guidance the certification program has reached international stature and is now recognized as the “standard of care” among hospital regulatory agencies.
