Dr. R.W. Bill Hamilton is a physiologist who has spent over 40 years solving problems of people exposed to environmental stresses. He worked 10 years in a diving industry lab at Union Carbide Corp., where he pioneered the use of neon as a diving gas, helped establish the basic criteria for fire safety in hyperbaric chambers, developed NOAA's procedures for nitrox saturation-excursion diving, and was investigator on a number of diving experiments studying narcosis, HPNS, gas physiology, and decompression. He helped introduce the concept of "technical" diving, which is based largely on procedures for the use of special decompressions with trimix, oxygen, and other gas mixtures. He recently served as Chairman of the Board of Divers Alert Network, DAN. A graduate of the University of Texas, Texas A&M, and Minnesota, he is a former Air Force fighter pilot.
